Priceless Writing TipsWhat Can Steve Jobs Teach You about Freelance Writing?

freelance writingSteve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple Inc., is a legend of our times and a revolutionary in the computer world. The hysteria surrounding Apple products is unbelievable. Did you know that people queue in front of Apple stores at night to be the first ones to buy new gadgets in the morning?
Steve Jobs, however, always said that the secret of his success was pretty simple. Be madly passionate about what you’re doing, think outside the box and have enough courage to put even the craziest ideas in practice. That’s it. It works with any job you are doing. Why not use his lessons for freelance writing?

Creativity Is Within Your Means

“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things.”
Steve Jobs was creative like nobody else. It was he who decided to combine a cell phone and a communicator and call it iPhone. However, Jobs insisted that creativity should be easy. No sleepless nights, no sweat and blood! Just exploration, combination and reinterpretation.
Creativity is always within our means, all we need to do is to poke our nose out of the box.

Keep It Simple

“That’s been one of my mantras – focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”
It is unbelievable how cluttered our minds can sometimes get. It seems that the status of the entire world is “it’s complicated.” Let’s make instead everything as simple as possible, whenever possible.

Keep Your Optimism in any Situation

“Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith.”
Life hit Jobs again and again, but it could never stop him. After he dropped out from college, he continued his informal self-education. After Jobs was fired from Apple in 1985 (he returned to the company in 1996), the enthusiastic executive founded NeXT Computer and Pixar. To apply this to freelance writing, think that even when words do not come easy, or the topic is boring, or a customer is annoying, we should never give up. Maybe new horizons of freelance writing are just around the corner.

Keep Going

Stay hungry, stay foolish.
Something is really wrong with a person who is never hungry. In most cases it means that s/he is fed up with various hardships. One more lesson of freelance writing is to never stop looking for new opportunities.

Never Be Afraid of Trying Something New

“Older people sit down and ask, ‘What is it?’ but the boy asks, ‘What can I do with it?’.”
Kids are like sponges, because they are never tired of absorbing new information. Jobs’ advice is to feel young in our hearts and to always be on the cutting edge of innovation. Using the best innovative technologies is the key to improving the mechanisms of freelance writing and – guess what? – maximizing the results.
