Freelance Writing: Simple Tips on Complicated TopicsFreelance Writing Work Doesn’t Have to Be Backbreaking Anymore!

freelance writing workFreelance writing work can be backbreaking in all senses of the word. It is not only about drying out your brain and ruining your nervous system by generating fresh ideas in a constant stream, having to continuously watch your grammar and meet the tightest deadlines. It is also about being pinned to your personal computer all day long and sitting at your desk, in an unnatural posture, for long hours.
Did you know that the lack of physical activity combined with long hours of computer use can have many serious health effects, from incessant back pain to carpal tunnel syndrome, loss of vision, weight gain and even potential heart strokes or diabetes? Indeed, your chair can be comfortable, but deadly. It is high time to take action in the interest of your personal health! You should start exercising immediately!

Your Super-Effective Workout

For the start, you don’t even have to leave your chair in order to do a bit of exercise that will truly benefit your health. Here are 5 exercises that you can easily do even from your chair (repeat every exercise 10 – 15 times):

  1. “The Frog”. Sit on the edge of the chair and put your legs on the floor, shoulder width apart. Bend your left leg and hug your knee. Draw your left knee to your chest. Stay in this position for a while and take 3 deep breaths. Then return to the initial position. Do the same with your right leg.
  2. “The Prayer”.Sit straight and put your palms together. Your fingers should be directed upwards, and your wrists and elbows should be on the same level. Press your palms against one another and take 5 deep breaths. Raise your palms as high as you can and take 5 deep breaths again.
  3. “The Bird”.Put your hands on your shoulders and hold your breath for a while. When breathing out, press your head against your chest and slowly gather your elbows together. Then take another deep breath, throw your head back and slowly separate your elbows as if you wanted to join them behind your back.
  4. “The Wall”. Sit straight in your chair and draw your hand in front of you. Bend your left wrist and imagine that you are trying to push a wall. With your right hand, take your left wrist and pull it to your side. Hold the position for a short while and then relax your hand.
  5. “The March”. Sit straight in your chair, with your feet touching the floor only with the toes. Feel the pressure in your muscles. Move your feet as if you would be marching on your toes under the table – forward, backward, left and right. Then do the same marching on your heels.

Expected Positive Effects

These 5 simple exercises won’t take you much time (5 – 10 minutes), but they have an unbelievable potential for training your body. These are only a few positive outcomes you can expect after at least a week of regular exercises:

  • no more (or at least much less) pain in your back, neck and shoulders;
  • improved posture;
  • better mood, productivity and creativity.

As there is nobody to force you to take a break or move from your computer chair when you do freelance writing work, the danger is that you don’t get enough physical exercise. This can have serious health consequences, but all it takes to avoid them is a simple routine of short exercises that you can practice any time. So get around to do them and enjoy a better body as well as a fresher mind!
